Students to paint celebrity ducks
News - Tuesday, 10th June, 2014
A flock of giant ducks are set to invade Lancashire this summer and Preston’s College students will have had a major part in getting them there!
Twenty-four celebrity designed ducks will be dotted across the county in top tourist spots in a scheme designed to raise thousands for charities.
Eleven of the massive (4ft x 6ft) ducks landed here at Preston’s College last week and our art and design students will paint them in a range of designs, all drawn up by celebrities.
Celebrities who have submitted designs for painting include fashion designer Wayne Hemingway, Sir Bradley Wiggins, Dave Spikey and Linda Lusardi as well as Charity Dingle from Emmerdale and Coronation Street’s Leanne Tilsley!
Keep your eyes peeled for the giant ducks popping up across Lancashire and keep you eye on The View and our Facebook page for pictures as the designs get brought to lfie by our students!
At the end of the Aquaducked festival, all 24 will be auctioned off for the projects three charities – Macmillan Cancer Support, Clic Sargent and Marie Curie Cancer Cure at the end of October in Blackpool.
Sue Swire from the organisers aquaducked.co.uk believes the artistic tour will be a success. She said: “The ducks have been sent to Preston’s College and each duck will be designed by three students. They will paint them and they should be finished by Thursday. They will go on show next week and we hope people will embrace them.”
Christine Stanford, our programme team leader for creative and digital arts added: “Our first year art and design level three students are painting the ducks. They are really excited especially as they will get to work with celebrities. Our curriculum has a lot of work based elements and the student have already tackled some live projects and they are looking forward to the challenge.”
