PRESTON’S COLLEGE student Shannon Pilkington has cause to celebrate after her painting was chosen to receive the Wayne Hemingway prize at the recent Harris Open Exhibition.

Shannon, 16 from Fulwood won the young person’s category of the prize after her painting was chosen above countless others by Wayne Hemingway himself.

The former Broughton Business and Enterprise College pupil said she had chosen a scene from local café ‘Brucianni’s’ as the subject of her painting and put it into the exhibition to see what happened.

“I was shocked to find out I had been chosen for a prize,” she added, “and even more so when I found out it was the Wayne Hemingway prize and my painting had been chosen by the man himself!

“I’ve always enjoyed painting and drawing and loved art at school. Now I’m studying art and design at Preston’s College and I’m absolutely loving it – hopefully I’ll get the chance to enter my work into more exhibitions and competitions now.”

Shannon’s work won her a £20 Granthams voucher.
