Preston’s College Takes Future Stars Into The Woods

News - Thursday, 11th June, 2015

Students from Preston’s College took their audience ‘Into the Woods’ at Preston Guild Hall’s Charter Theatre last night, giving theatre goers a sneak preview of the home-grown stars of tomorrow.

The production, which runs until Saturday 13 June, sees arts students performing amongst a 70-strong cast from Preston’s College taking to the professional stage in the famous Sondheim musical that combines characters from four classic fairytales; Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood and Rapunzel.

The student cast delivered all-star potential, with singing, acting and dancing from students across various course levels from entry to Level 3.

Anne Markland, programme team leader for performing arts at Preston’s College, and director of the show, said: “Every June we take to the stage at Preston Guild Hall’s Charter Theatre, whilst also putting on an end of the year show which is always completely different.

“Over the past few years we have staged Jekyll & Hyde, Flashdance and Jesus Christ Superstar, but Into the Woods is amongst the most challenging yet.

“However, our talented students have more than risen to the challenge and definitely give the world-famous stars from the recent ‘Into the Woods’ Hollywood blockbuster a run for their money.”

Many of the stars of the Preston’s College Into the Woods production have already secured places at drama or dance schools for September. Students will be moving onto the prestigious dance academy, Bird College and Blackpool’s Phil Winston’s Theatreworks, as well as the renowned ArtsEd in London where super star alumni include Julie Andrews, Darcy Bussell and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Anne added: “This is a great opportunity for theatre goers to spot the stars of the future and enjoy an amazing show, which has some familiar characters but a plot that will be completely fresh to most.

“It’s all about what happens when wishes come true, which they soon will for many of our students. Performing on the professional stage for the first time will be a major milestone on that journey to stardom for many.”

Into the Woods runs until Saturday 13 June, 7.30pm, at Preston Guild Hall’s Charter Theatre.
