Preston’s College Launches New Apprenticeship Service

News - Thursday, 9th July, 2015

On Thursday 16th July Preston’s College will welcome Chief Executive of the North & Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, Babs Murphy to officially open its new apprenticeship service, The Job Zone.

This coincides with the Chancellor’s recent Summer Budget announcement which pledged a commitment to create three million new apprenticeships nationally by 2020.

The Job Zone’s aim is to support students looking for an apprenticeship during and after their studies as well as the general public who are on the lookout for work.

Apprenticeships are becoming increasingly popular because they give young people, as well as adults, employment with a local company while allowing them to gain a recognised qualification.

Based on the student high street at Preston’s College, The Job Zone is open from 9.00am – 5.00pm Monday to Thursday and 9.00am – 4.30pm on Friday allowing the public to review and apply for dozens of apprenticeship vacancies across the local area.

The Job Zone will also provide a free advice and guidance service on CV and application writing as well as interview preparation and post-interview feedback.

Babs, who is also vice chair of the governing board at Preston’s College, will cut the ribbon at 5.00pm while delegates from Lancashire County Council, NHS and current apprenticeship applicants will also be in attendance.

Talking about how The Job Zone will help boost employment in the local area, Andrew Richardson, Head of Recruitment at Preston’s College, said: “As one of the largest Apprenticeship providers in the local area, we are keen to help both students and the general public progress onto an apprenticeship.

“Apprenticeships are becoming increasingly popular because they give learners paid employment with local and national companies, while allowing them to gain a recognised and transferable qualification.

“Working with hundreds of employers helps us to find each candidate the best fit to match their skills and aspirations.”

If you are interested in attending the event, feel free to visit the College’s Fulwood Campus, St Vincent’s Road from 4.30pm where you will be able to apply for local apprenticeship vacancies.
