Lucky students take to Broadway!

News - Tuesday, 18th March, 2014

Students from Preston’s College felt like Broadway stars for a week when a trip to New York turned their dreams into reality.

27 students from studying performing arts at various levels, took a trip to the Big Apple as part of an enterprising trip to meet Broadway professional performers and accompanists.

As well as seeing Broadway shows Phantom of the Opera and Motown, students took part in performance workshops and a question and answer session, with stars of the shows, which they found particularly enlightening.

Student Harry Elletson said: “It was amazing to get the chance to ask questions of actors working on Broadway and find out more about the industry we all want to go into.

“I’m glad I was able to come on the trip, seeing New York was amazing, and then having the chance to see the shows and then speak to the actors is fantastic for us.

“These people are living our dreams so any advice we could get from them will really help us when we are starting our careers.”

It wasn’t all work and no play however as the trip involved sightseeing with visits including the iconic Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty and the 9/11 memorial.

Jane Tudor, assistant head of performing arts said she was delighted with the trip:

“This is a trip we take students on every year and every year it is a resounding success,” she said, “I’m so pleased that this year we were able to take learners from right across our courses, from entry level right through to level three.

“Many of our students have ambitions to one day work in the West End or even on Broadway, so this was an excellent opportunity for them to see a real Broadway show and meet and work with some of the cast, which has now only fuelled their ambition even more!

“I want to thank the students who came on the trip, everyone we met said how well behaved, good-mannered and polite they were and they were a credit to Preston’s College. Even US Border Security were impressed!”
