College Principal Named Female Leader of the Year

News - Friday, 27th November, 2015

Principal and chief executive of Preston’s College, Lis Smith, was named Lancashire’s Female Leader of the Year at the prestigious Women in Business Awards on Friday 13 November 2015.

Hosted by Downtown Lancashire in Business, Lis was recognised for her work at Preston’s College in the last five years.

Lis played a key role in the recent launch of the College’s new £13m iSTEM Centre (innovation and Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) and skills-based curriculum.

Lis, who has more than 20 years of Higher Education (HE), Further Education (FE) and economic development experience, manages a team of 600 staff and an annual intake of around 13,000 students.

The Women in Business Awards, which took place at The Villa, Wrea Green, recognise the very best female entrepreneurs, business owners and decision makers that the county has to offer.

One of 12 winners, Lis was also joined by colleague Lisa Edge, general manager of ROI Solutions and head of employer engagement at Preston’s College, who was shortlisted in the Employee of the Year category.

Lis said: “It’s a real honour to win this award, especially with such eminent and successful leaders within Lancashire. But it’s a real team effort and I’d like to dedicate the award to the hard work and commitment of all our staff and students who share our vision of ensuring Preston’s College delivers the most employable learners.”
