FOOTBALL: Preston’s College 2 Runshaw 3

Guest Post - Thursday, 18th September, 2014

The lads were all up for the first game of the season as we prepared for a local derby against Runshaw – a great way to start the season and hopefully get off to a good start.

At the start of the first half, we struggled to get going and were too slow to get into the game. Runshaw made us pay for this and we went 2-0 down in the first 20 minutes. Their second goal could have killed us off but the lads showed great determination to get back onto the front foot and created some good chances but goal proved elusive.

Half time 0-2

Second half we started very bright after making 5 changes. We went on the front foot early on without really creating many chances. Unfortunately, 10 minutes into the second half we conceded another. 3-nil down.

From here, I was impressed with the way the lads really dug in and showed good character. We played some decent football and worked a few good openings as we looked to fight back. Mark Forshaw eventually scored a good goal to make it 3-1 and from then on we really went for it, Regan Linney was causing Runshaw countless problems on the wing, and he was rewarded when he saw his 25-yard wonder strike nestle in the net to make it 2-3.

Unfortunately it was too little too late and the game ended 2-3 to Runshaw. There were positives to take though and we’ll take those on into the next game as we look to go for three points away at Mid Cheshire next week.

Scorers – Mark Forsaw & Regan Linney
