Enterprise Awareness Day 2013
News - Wednesday, 13th November, 2013
All students and staff across the College’s wide range of programmes were off-timetable yesterday as they took part in Enterprise Awareness Day – designed to develop an inspirational, inclusive, dynamic and informative day of enterprise and entrepreneurship activity. Throughout the day activities took place that engaged learners in idea development, business planning and team building exercises.
The event launched a detailed programme of One College Weeks which will take place throughout the year and will be brought together with involvement from the whole college working together. The first of these is the College’s ‘Winter Wonderland’ Christmas Market event which takes place on the 11th December 2013.
Learners worked in mixed groups to develop their creative and business thinking before coming together to create business ideas that could be used during the Winter Wonderland event. The groups then pitched their ideas to local entrepreneurs and College management who chose the four best ideas.
Winning ideas included a Santa’s Grotto, ‘Vintage Wonderland’ selling vintage artworks and craft items, ‘Message in a bottle’ personalised gifts and the Brickwork Community Shield where students will teach their skills to members of the public.
A spokesperson for Preston’s College commented: “Everyone really got into the spirit of enterprise and there were some great ideas coming out of the various departments – many of which will find their way into the mix at our Winter Wonderland event which promises to be an exciting showcase of what the College has to offer not only in education but in enterprising activity and community spirit.”
The day also saw performances by talented music students, and a local enterprise who visited with their mobile skate park.
