LOCAL football team, Cadley JFC will be embarking on a trip to Preston’s twin-town of Recklinghausen this June to take part in a football competition against teams from across Europe.
The team, sponsored by Preston’s College, are taking part in the competition for the second time and are the only English team to participate in the invitation-only tournament.
Once in Germany, the lads will play against teams from some of Europe’s leading lights including Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Fenerbache and Schalke 04 as well as the team from Recklinghausen.
The trip is in part supported by the club’s sponsorship agreement with Preston’s College which helps to pay towards equipment and trips for the team.
Cadley FC’s Chairman Steve Flynn said: “We’re pleased to be invited to take part in the tournament which features towns from across Europe that are twinned with Recklinghausen.
“The fact that they also invite some of the biggest names in world football makes it even more special for the lads who play, and provides them with a real test of their skills against some very talented kids.
“We’ve a good record though since we’ve been going out there and we’ll be looking to do well again and maybe even bring home a trophy. We’re really proud to be asked to represent the city of Preston in the tournament.”
Andrew Richardson, head of recruitment at Preston’s College added: “We’ve got a long history of sponsoring Cadley Football Club and it’s an association we’re immensely proud of.
“As a College at the heart of the community, it’s great that we can show our support for community clubs and groups and help them to achieve their aims.”
