BASKETBALL: Team Preston 85 Allerton 56
Guest Post - Thursday, 18th September, 2014
We took on Allerton from Leeds in the first game of our Elite Academy Basketball League season and I made sure the lads were aware that we needed to get off to a good start! We got the jump on them early and Anthony Stanhope set us up with a couple of three-pointers. I was pleased with the way we started quick and didn’t really give Allerton a hope of coming into the game.
We had a few new guys playing out there and it was good to get them invovled and see them playing in their first game and good to get a view of how they reacted to a game situation and blended with the existing players. One of our new players in particular, Daniel Miller was again top scorer, netting 17 points, closely followed by Kyle and Moses on 14.
The game was only ever going one way and it feels good to get the points and a win for the first game, hopefully it will be the start of a run and we can be looking at heading the table. It was a good effort but there’s still room to improve in the way the guys gel as a team and how we work the rotation.
Plenty of positives, but work to do but I’ve no doubt that if we work hard in the gym on those areas where we need to improve, we’ll kick on from here and start collecting the points.
Next game in the EABL is a tough one away at Tyne Metropolitan and it’s improtant we get a good result ahead of a clash with Myerscough on October 1st.
