Basketball: Tameside 62 Team Preston 61

This was our first game playing in the National League after our debut season in the college leagues. We got thrown in the deep end with a game against the team who are probably best in the Northern group but that’s exactly the type of challenge I like and I’m pleased that the lads did not disappoint us.
We started well and we managed to hold our own, particularly with a team where some of our players were younger than the opposition. The game was pretty even throughout and we had some strong performances from players who’d been part of our squad last year. Both Anthony Stanhope and Johnny Joseph scored 12 points during the game but the lead scorer for us was Daniel Miller who netted 25 points in total.
To come through the game within touching distance is something to be proud of and I’ve seen a lot to be positive about both in training and during this game and I’ve no doubt that we will kick on from here and grow in confidence and ability as we move through the season. The lads have done themselves proud and I’m confident there is still more to come!
Our next game comes in the EABL as we host Allerton. Tip-off is 1pm so please come along and support us as we hope to get off to a good start in the EABL. We’ve got a new group of players, many of whom will be playing their first game so it would be great to see a lot of support. I’ve got big plans for this team and I’m confident of a good campaign again this year.
